Are you addicted to Construct-O-Set? Are you telling all your friends that it’s one of the best iPhone applications you’ve found? If you’ve got an artistic bent and some simple graphics software, you just might be able to turn your passion into income! Construct-O-Set’s developers are soliciting designs to be used in future editions of the game. If your design is chosen, you could win prizes and royalties on all game sales in which your design is featured. Sound good? Want to know more?

The current edition of Construct-O-Set is very simple, and aimed primarily at small children. But the possibilities are endless. The idea of turning abstract shapes into recognizable objects appeals not only to very young children but to sophisticated puzzlers as well. Construct-O-Set would like to target preschoolers right through adults with increasingly complex and elegant designs. But because the people behind the development of Construct-O-Set are programmers, not graphic designers, their artistic abilities are limited. This is where you come in.

Currently, Construct-O-Set comes with five designs to complete. The developers have a number of other iPhone applications they’d like to see produced, with each theme consisting of four or five designs. For example, the “Vehicles” theme would include designs for a car, a truck, a train, and an airplane. Artists interested in working on one or more of these designs would have to upload the completed template picture, the separate shapes used to complete it, and an audio file of the sound that vehicle makes (i.e., a car horn or train whistle). Construct-O-Set provides complete submission instructions online.

All designs are due by September 30, 2010. The public will be given the opportunity to vote for their favorite design in October, and winners will be announced in November. If your design wins the most votes, you will receive a nifty Wacom Bamboo Fun graphics tablet. The top vote-getter, as well as other winning designs, will also be included in the next Construct-O-Set release, and will be eligible to receive royalties on all sales including that particular template.
